Catch the Olympic Spirit!
January 26, 2010
We
were thrilled to have the Olympic Torch coming through Enderby on
Tuesday, January 26, 2010, just after 3pm! This was
a once-in-a-lifetime event and we had out over 1,200
people celebrating our community and the Olympic spirit!
The excitement began with a staging event at the Enderby Seniors Complex, which was bursting with the sound of the Spallumcheen drummers, a children's choir, a rhythmic gymnastics demonstration, and the Philip Wesley Band, as well as celebratory remarks from Mayor Wejr, MLA Abbott, and MP Mayes.
In the
evening there was an "Enderby Anthem" contest at A.L. Fortune Secondary,
which was our home-grown version of Canadian Idol.
We had wonderful songs contributed by the following musicians:
Joan Badke performing "Enderby's Bright Heart"
Katy van Dalfsen performing "Believe."
Linzy Lunkwist performing "Catch the Fire."
Milan Marcetta, Jr. performing a selection from his recently-released CD.
After the finalists performed, the crowd voted for the new Enderby anthem. The winner was Linzy Lunkwist's "Catch the Fire."
